Our restaurant boasts
not only exceptional menus but also a well-balanced
extensive wine list, organised and selected by Mr Brian
Hughes following many trips abroad visiting a host of
the featured vineyards.
Our stocks represent a range which covers all tastes
and pockets from many of the world’s best producers.
The list below demonstrates a selection of our best
and most popular wines.
New World
The Wakefield Chardonnay and Shiraz from the St Andrews
vineyard in South Australia would have been definite
choices for our wine list even without the vineyard’s
name. The white is a deluxe Chardonnay with the fresh
tropical fruit expected from a grape when produced in
Australia and the Shiraz is a fine example of a strong
intense wine which is made from selected, low yielding,
old vines.
Also flying the flag for good quality New World wines
are the Cloudy Bay producers from New Zealand and we
are pleased to have no less than four of their wines
on our list. The fine Chardonnay offers a lighter style
than its Australian counter part. The Sauvignon Blanc
may be the most famous of its kind in the New World
and is certainly the most sought after.
The Sauvignon Blanc Fume ‘TeKoko’ is now
available, to offer more complexity to the wine by oak
ageing. Although it is very new the TeKoko looks set
to become a classic. As far as reds are concerned Cloudy
Bay’s Pinot Noir is perhaps rivalled only in Burgundy.
This is the latest grape to find fame in New Zealand
and it is done great justice here in this intensely
flavoured wine.
Old World
We stock a wide range of Old World wines, which include
some fine offerings from Guigal, Chapoutier and Drouhin
from appellations in France. From Spain there are many
fine traditional Riojas to chose from alongside wines
made by the famous Torres House, both in Spain and various
locations in the Americas. A small collection of German
whites includes two Maximin Grunhauser wines of exceptional
quality.
For the larger parties we stock a reasonably priced
Bordeaux, the Chateau Gravet Grand Cru, St Emilion in
a magnum.
To experience Sauvignon Blanc at its Old World best
a look at our Loire wines will show two great choices
in the Sancerre "Les Chasseignes" Riffault
2001 and Pouilly Fume, Herve Seguin 2001, which both
have a very reasonable price.
The Rhone Valley provided our list with some of the
most regarded blends in all the world and varies in
price and style but provides consistent quality.
Champagne and Sparkling Wines
For that special occasion or merely a treat, our Champagne
and Sparkling wine selection features a strong cast
from Old and New World.
An inclusion of three Moet et Chandon produced wines
provides a choice of the Australian Green Point Brut,
traditionally made but with all the Antipodean character
from a sparkling wine from Down Under. The classic Moet
et Chandon Brut, giving everything that’s to be
expected, if not demanded from quality champagne. The
final wine from the range is the Cuvee Dom Perignon
1990, the name is synonimase with quality and class.
If these are not enough, you may look further to find
many more, not least of which are the Guy de Chassey
Brut, Mansard Brut Rose and the stunning Bollinger "Grand
Annee" 1992.
